Ricky Syers: No Strings Attached

Ricky Syers is one of the most talented and original puppeteer I’ve ever seen. This talented artist creates tiny little creatures based on real people he sees at the Washington Square Park in New York. Each of these characters has a beautiful story behind that put a smile on many people’s faces.

Here’s one of his most popular creations, Stix, a tiny old man with alcoholic problems. This character is seen dancing, sitting on a bench, smoking cigarette, and of course drinking wine–cute!

There’s also a the captivating story of Doris Diether, an 85-year-old lady who had lost her voice after an injury but followed Ricky’s art from the beginning. One day, Doris showed him a scrap book filled with articles she had written about marionettes, they started a beautiful friendship, and Ricky decided to create a marionette of her. Doris has recently regained her ability to speak.

Some people are just awesome.
